A Little About North Salem
I've spent much of my life riding and showing horses in North Salem. North Salem was settled in 1731 and shows pride in it's history with many antique homes that have been exquisitely maintained over the years. You'll also find new homes that fit beautifully into the rolling landscape of the area. Don't be surprised if you find a hidden, private estate with a remarkable mansion or a horse farm with area residents preparing for all types of equestrian sports. The Town of North Salem is located 50 miles north of New York City in Westchester County and consists of 4 unincorporated townships: North Salem, Purdys, Croton Falls and Salem Center, and is one of the few rural towns in Westchester.
It's been said of North Salem that it probably has more horses living in the town than people. North Salem's open spaces and riding trails maintained by the North Salem Bridal Trails Association make it a great place. The North Salem Open Land Foundation (NSOLF) is committed to preserving the natural beauty of North Salem and protecting the open space to provide refuge for wildlife. They have been doing this for the past 42 years.
The Titicus River runs through much of North Salem feeding the Titicus Reservoir. It's not uncommon to see fisherman out on the reservoir. It provides a comfortable environment for wildlife including many species of waterfowl. It's also a great subject for photographers.
Other great sites in North Salem are The Hammond Museum, Pietsch Lake - a motorsport lake, Old Salem Farm - the home of the American Gold Cup show jumping competition and lots of other great spots. The Golden's Bridge Hounds host hunter paces and other great area activities.
